Barntown Heritage Group – News

Barntown Heritage Group

We are a recently formed group which consists of a number of local volunteers. We are about promoting and developing awareness of the huge depth of history within Barntown from famous events, historical structures and local people.

To achieve this we hope to work on a number of projects each year and we have recently being involved in the design and planning of the new Welcome Stonework erected along the edge of the N25.

We are also currently working in partnership with Wexford County Council to resurrect the Three Rocks Trail, in which an application for funding to the Department of Rural and Community Development has been lodged. A response to this application is due in late October. It is planned to upgrade the walking trails, directional signage and information signs and to bring the trail up to national trail standards.

This Trail takes you through a historical journey of the famous Three Rocks 1798 battle which was a huge part of the 1798 rebellion, please refer to the Walking Trails Section of this website for futher information http://barntown.ie/three-rocks-trail/

Barntown Heritage Group would like to thank locals Anthony Whelan and Johnny Roche for taking the time to clear off the overgrown scrub from in front of the Three Rocks Monument in preparation for future upgrade works to the site next year.
